4.6 Daphne's sadness

Advisory some course language

It had been a few weeks since he had returned home from Lucky Palms. He couldn't put off dealing with business any longer and was waiting for everyone to turn up so he get on with this meeting but his thoughts told him something was wrong. He heard faint cries and suddenly knew who it was crying. It was his mother and he spoke to her, 'Mum are you ok?'

'I'm ok you carry on with your business I'll be fine.'
'Mum I'll be there in ten minutes.' He didn't have to ask where she was as he knew where she would be.
Blake shouted after Estevan, "Dad, the meeting!"
Estevan shouted back, "Start without me. I should be back within the hour."

When he got to the graveyard he saw his mum over his Dad's grave tears streaming down her face. He sat on the bench watching his mum mourn for a man he hardly knew. Daphne turned to Estevan and asked, "You didn't have to come here. I know you never visit his grave."
"How can I mourn a man I only met six month before he died? Until now I never realised how much you loved him."

"I miss him so much but I have a confession to make." Estevan hated his mother's confessions as meant more hurt for him.
"What is this one?"
"I know your father couldn't see you as you were growing up because he was married but I kept seeing him..."

Estevan finally lost his temper and yelled, "So let me get this straight. You and Dad saw each other regularly but cut me out the picture?"
"Yes and no."
"What the fuck do you mean by yes and no?"

"Don't you swear at me, remember I'm your mother."
"I will swear if I so fucking chose. I remember having no father growing up. I never knew his name, where he lived. I only had your word on what he was like. Then one day he turns up asking for my help and in return I found out everything. If it was left to you I still would not know anything."
Daphne knew he was right in part but also needed to say what was on her mind, "I may have gone with a married man and be guilty of loving him but keeping secrets, now look who's talking."

"Yes I am guilty of keeping a secret but who started this and it was you and Dad who put me in this position. I tried once to tell the secret but I was not believed so I played along and kept my mouth shut as if it was all one big joke."
"Well if you unblocked your mind then people and you know what I mean...would know that you are telling the truth. Besides you are on borrowed time as someone else knows the secret, I can sense it."

Estevan was now in shock, "Impossible I've blocked that part of my mind and kept it blocked for many years. How can anyone break through?"
They sat on the bench both trying to think and then Estevan said calmly, "Mum is it possible..."
Daphne replied, "It could be possible but another thing to remember the younger the vampire the stronger their powers can be."
"Mum, I didn't know about you and Dad seeing each other until today."
"Female vampires have one advantage our emotions. Example for you when I was crying and you heard me, did you read my mind?"
"No I didn't. The crying was getting on my nervous." Daphne looked at him with a smile and smugly said, "Exactly my point, I showed you where I was but the crying for you was a distraction so you didn't read my mind. It's a skill females learn to master over time."
They sat in silence for awhile then Daphne asked, "How serious are you with this Dawn?"

Estevan without looking at his mum replied, "I'm very serious about her. I love her..."
"Estevan I know all this but why haven't you married her? Also when are you going to have children?"
"Mum, if you want the truth it's this. I'd marry her tomorrow and have children but Dawn isn't ready for marriage or children. She thinks because the boys are adults I don't want anymore. I've tried telling her but she thinks I'm just saying it for her benefit."

"I should have given this to you a long time ago but this is a picture of you and your Dad together when you were a toddler about 18 months I think you were. Anyway your Dad asked me to give you these keys but I forgot about it until now. As you know he was a successful business man, well he left you a place at Sunlit Tides. If you do decide you need a break or finally marry Dawn then it could be used for a honeymoon."
Looking at the picture he turned to his Mum and replied, "I get the hint."

  1. What an emotional afternoon for Estevan. I don't think I like his mother very much though, she purposefully kept Estevan away from his father while she carried on with the affair, and she still hasn't given him a proper explanation for her actions.

    1. Val,

Daphne had her reasons for her actions and Estevan knows part of the reason. Estevan loves his mother but doesn't like the way say behaved throughout all this.

      Thanks for reading :)

  2. Mkay, well we still don't know the secret that Harmony (I'm guessing that's the 'younger vampire' that his mom spoke of) knows. *taps foot*

    Sunlit Tides? :) yay!

    1. Mypalsim,

  3. The irony of vampires when a mother looks the same age as her son...and her grandsons for that matter.

Lol not just vampire females can get what they want by a show of emotion ;)

    1. Pixx,

I know they look the same age don't they. Females it seems because of their emotions can block others from reading their minds.

      Estevan's father was good looking.

      Thanks for reading :)

  4. It seems Este never catches a break.
So the female vampire and the human female have manipulation in their tears. hmmm
Was his mother always in the picture? This meeting seemed very weird.

  5. Daphne wants more grandchildren! I'm surprised, but maybe in her own way, she does love Estevan. Harmony must be a strong vampire since she knows Estevan's secret. I wonder what the secret is. Was it about how his wife died?

  6. LOL, the mom nagging the son about grandchildren. Humans do it, and apparently so do vampires. XD
Hehe, using tears to cloud the mind, nice trick.
