4.18 The Graveyard

Lexy went home to rest while Estevan went in search for Blair. She had only been home five minutes when there was a knock at the door.

When she opened it she saw Blake standing before her getting soaked by the rain. She invited him in knowing it wasn't going to be a pleasant meeting. When she closed the door she kept her back against the wall and waited for the outburst.

Blake stared at her for a moment then and in an angry tone asked, "I want to hear it from you and only you." Lexy started to move across the room but Blake followed her and continued, "What is your name? Did you arrest my Dad for the murder of Sam?"

She sat on the couch putting her head in her hands and replied, "My name is Lexy Sail and yes I arrested Estevan." Blake now yelled, "You set me up. That night you spent with me was so you could dig information on me and to think I trusted a stranger with my heart and soul."

Lexy pleaded with Blake to hear her out, "It wasn't like that. Even before I knew you. I defended you to my boss and when we did meet...I just knew you didn't kill her. My boss insisted I arrest your Dad and I know he is not to blame. Estevan told me Samantha was having an affair. Do you know with who?"

Blake could see Lexy was trying to back away so he grabbed her arm and held her close to him while he asked firmly, "I don't know but why would you care about my family and me?"
"Your Dad saved my life when I was a child."
"And answer the question, why me?" Still keeping a firm grip.
Lexy looked him in the eye not breaking the eye contact and replied, "I'm falling for you. So either kiss me or let go of me."

Blake let go of Lexy and in shock replied, "Shit, shit, shit. You are beautiful but I'm sorry, I just can't not now, not ever." He went to leave but Lexy blocked the entrance. "If I'm beautiful as you say and you are in the clear, what is stopping you from seeing me?"
"You arrested my Dad for one."
"And you are holding back. I can sense you are torn, part of you wants to run but the other half which you never share with anyone but I can see it. You want me I can feel it."

She stepped closer but Blake kept backing away but she followed his moves until he trapped himself, "You want to love someone and that someone to return that love. You want that connection like you have never felt before."
Blake managed to free himself and replied, "I just can't...I mean what happened if you cheated or a man came on too you? The jealousy I felt, I can't go through that again."

Lexy looked at him, "What if you cheated on me? These are all what ifs. I get jealous too. In case you hadn't noticed I may be a cop but I'm a woman first. If you were my boyfriend and a woman came onto you I'd want to kill her but I wouldn't because I would trust you would do the right thing."
"You are making sense but still nothing can happen between us." This time Lexy didn't stop him from leaving.
It was still raining as Blake made his way through the streets. His mind was still reeling from the fact that Sam was still alive when he left her. Now having to admit to his Dad he didn't know everything and he did need to learn mind control and to hunt properly, all he could see was his Dad saying I told you so but it would be what he'd deserve.
"Well, look who it is, Blake Granger the vampire who killed his girlfriend." Blake spun around to see who it was but there was no-one there. It wasn't Samantha taunting him but someone else.

A pain gripped Blake and he was on the floor trying to get back up. Suddenly he could feel Lexy's emotions and he couldn't work out why. Blake wasn't sure if she had done something to him. He called for help and hoped this time someone would hear, 'Dad, Will help. I think Lexy is in trouble, quickly please.' Then he collapsed where he was and everything went blank.
Blake could hear voices talking around him as he was stirring. "He's waking up." When Blake came around he saw his Dad looking at him. "How are you now?"

Blake sat up and asked, "How is Lexy?" Estevan smiled and said asked her yourself, this is her house. "You were in trouble, I sensed it."
"I'm fine, I just felt uneasy when I met Samantha's lover. He approached me when I came outside but as a human reading his mind was easy. You must have sensed us talking and how I felt." Estevan then voiced, "I will handle it so go home."
Lexy yelled, "No it won't get sorted your way but the law's way. William take your brother home and help him with his mind control and controlling his feed. And as for you Estevan don't make me regret sticking up for you so don't do anything about this."
William took her advice and took Blake home. Once outside Blake asked, "Will, why could I feel her emotions?"
"I think because you like her as much as she likes you, accept you are in denial."

"I get jealous too easy. I can't put her through that." William stopped and looked at his brother and replied, "I will help you learn mind control and how to control your emotions when it's time to feed. I told you to listen to Dad..." Blake cut him off, "Yeah, you are the perfect one and I'm the bad son."
Will yelled back, "I'm not perfect, you are the one who stood up to Dad. I followed him into the business while you followed your dream job. Yes you ignored the fundamentals of being a vampire but I'm sure you're not the first and won't be the last. You and Art can learn together."
"Oh great getting taught with my nephew. I suppose it could have been worse."
William retaliated back with, "It could have been worse, Dad could have made you learn with Uncle Blair." The look Will got from Blake was priceless as they continued their way home.

The graveyard

Estevan had taken a different route which took him to the graveyard. As he thought he saw Blair staring at their father's grave. When he approached Blair he waited for a moment to see if there was any reaction but he didn't say anything. Estevan then asked, "Do you want to talk?"

Blair was in a state which was unlike anything that Estevan had ever seen before, "Do you know we met when you were a baby?"
"Teddy told me about what you said. She is really upset saying she can't feel your emotions, have you left her?"

Suddenly Estevan saw the Blair he knew, "Leave my wife are you crazy, no. I cut my emotional link because I am hunting."

Estevan slammed him into the tree and firmly replied, "We will get this guy but you and Teddy will suffer if you don't reconnect. I don't want that on my conscious."

Blair pulled away, "We both know you can't do anything but I can. This guy will hurt our family including my wife and child, instinct tells me that."
"I've told Teddy to stay with me until you come home but what do I tell her?"

"Yes please tell me!" They both were in shock when they saw Teddy standing there.
Blair's heart was crumbling to see her sad and weak.

She ran into his arms and he held her tightly as they fell to the floor.

"I love you gorgeous but the link has to stay broken because of what I have to do. You can't know what I'm doing."
Estevan sat watching the conversation between them.

"Blair I can't be on my own. You need to be home, please."

"Teddy you must go." as he unwrapped her arms from him. Estevan came over and said to Teddy, "I'll see no harm comes to him. Do as he says and go back to mine, ok."
Teddy reluctantly agreed but they both heard the cries as she left the graveyard. "Just make sure she survives this, while I'm gone."

Estevan nodded in agreement as they approached their Dad's grave. "Are you sure you want to do this?" Estevan asked.
"I want to ring his bloody neck for all the lies. He saw how we were together when we met and still he lied and then asked me to leave. What kind of father does that?" Estevan couldn't argue with Blair.

Blair called his father out of his rest and within minutes he was at the grave side. "Who calls me out of my sleep?" No sooner had the words left his lips did he see who was there. "Blair how great to see you after all this time." He ignored Estevan and tried to jump back into the stone but Blair grabbed him.
"Sorry but you are not going anywhere as you have a lot of explaining to do."

Slamming him onto the stone bench and with Estevan the other side David knew his time was up. Finally he acknowledged Estevan, "Hay Estevan, how are you?"

"Like you even give a shit. You abandoned me as a toddler but continued seeing Mum." David was about to answer when Blair cut in, "When I met Estevan for the first time you introduced him as Daphne's son, where in any of that did you mention he was my brother or that he was your son?"

David looked taken aback and replied, "Blair I was hoping you didn't remember that. It was just your Mum knew about the affair and Estevan and forbid me to tell you. Estevan as for you I am truly sorry. I should have been a better man and been there when you needed me. You being a vampire from birth, I saw changes in you so quickly that Blair never had because he was human so it seemed you would never need me."

"I would have needed you growing up even if though I was a vampire. That is the worst excuse I've ever heard." Then Blair had his say, "Mum forbid you to tell me about my brother, since when did you ever listen to her? Any other siblings we should know about?"
David quietly said, "It's just you and Estevan." Blair was about to say more when they heard someone talking to Samantha's grave. So they hid so they wouldn't be seen.

"It's all going to plan. Blake thinks he killed you and his father's just been arrested helping him clean up. This has gone better than planned. Pity William couldn't be stitched up with something but you actually thought I loved you. Sam dear, you were just easy and a good lay.  Never mind two out of three isn't a bad result."
Estevan wanted to attack him there and then but Blair said, "Just wait, tell Lexy that cop friend of yours, if she doesn't get him I will."

4.17 Revelations

William held Dawn while the tears streamed down her face. Blake ran into the room, "I just got your message, Will. What's wrong?"

"Dad's been arrested for Samantha murder." Blake had to sit down and was trying to think, "Dad didn't do it. I killed her." William settled Dawn on the sofa and in a calm tone, "Blake, you didn't kill her." Blake lost his temper and yelled, "I did kill her, it was an accident but I was there I should know."

"Ok Blake if you killed her tell me what happened." as he folded his arms tapping his foot waiting for an answer.
"We were arguing about the affair and I asked her to leave. She was crying as she was packing her clothes. Suddenly I came over with rage and hurt and then needed to feed and then she was on the floor not moving."
"How did you kill her?"
"Is this a trick question Will? I sank my fangs into her neck and drained her. After it happened some blood from my fangs got on her clothes and when I realized what I did and I went to Dad for help."
"Blake listen to me. Dad told me there was a third puncher wound and they are accusing Dad of finishing the job..." Blake interrupted, "I didn't kill her and Dad finish...share his feed...He never shares his feed. Remember as kids he used to yell if we tried to have blood from the same person?"
"Exactly but we need to help him. He got the information from a cop who owes him after he saved her life."

Dawn finally spoke as she came close to both Will and Blake. "You thought you killed your girlfriend and your Dad cleaned up and destroyed evidence? Now he's in trouble because of you."
Blake felt at that moment like a child, "Dawn I'm sorry."
"You're sorry. My fiancé is sitting in a cell because you are sorry. I want him home right now so fix this." Blake saw the hurt in her face and sheepishly replied, "I will I promise." Then Dawn left the room still in a state.
"Does Granma know about this?" Blake asked.
"Not yet she went away for a few days but is back tomorrow. I have to organise bail for him. Still have to tell Blair about this."
"I doubt he will care about Dad."

Teddy let William in the house and for a moment he watched Blair play the piano. Blair continued playing and firmly said, "What are you doing in my house? I told your Dad we are through."

William had something to say and Blair was going to listen. "Uncle Blair..." Blair slammed the keys hard on hearing those two words and Blair was about to burst. "I'm not you're..."
William didn't have time to argue, "Can it will you. You know he is your brother so let's get to why I'm here.

Dad is in trouble and needs your help. He was arrested for Samantha's murder."
Blair just stared at Will, "Are you going to say anything?"
"Get out of my house, now" Will had done what his Dad had asked and hoped that he would help.

Blair knew that look all too well when Teddy sat on his lap and held his face while she kissed him. "Are you trying to distract me?" as he responded to her kisses.
"I am because I love you." He knew by her tone she wanted something and unfortunately it wasn't sex.
"What is it you really want, gorgeous?"

"Please tell me why you are so upset about Estevan being your brother." Blair moved her from his lap and sighed looking at the floor. He'd had enough of fighting with Teddy so decided to try and explain, "You really want to know, fine. Dad and I got on until I was about 10 years old. He would stick up for me against Mum. Then his business meant he started to travel and we became distant." Remembering these memories made Blair feel uncomfortable as the pain was deep.
"Mum drove me insane and so one day I took off when I was about 13 or 14 can't exactly remember the age. Anyway Dad found me when I was 15 years old and begged me to come home but I refused but he asked me to come to a home he was renting while doing business. I'd only been there about an hour when a woman came through the door with a baby. She looked at me then at Dad and do you know what he said?"

Teddy looked at Blair and could suddenly feel his hurt and replied softly while listening, "What did he say?"
"This is Daphne and her baby, Estevan. Not this is my son, your baby brother. He lied straight to my face. The baby just kept smiling at me and wanting to play with me but suddenly Dad wanted me to leave. After this he and I never spoke and about a year later I became a vampire."

Teddy was now in shock, "So you and Estevan met when he was a baby. Your Dad had the chance to tell you but didn't. You should have said something earlier. Do you think Estevan knows about this?"
"I checked his thoughts and he doesn't know. How could he do this to me?"
"Blair, who are you mad at your Dad or Estevan?"
"I really don't know at the moment."
"Listen to me, who is it that you go to when you need help?"
"Estevan."
"When you thought I died who did you call for help?"
"Estevan."
"Can you see the pattern? You have always gone to Estevan when things get tough. He comes to you. The only difference now is you know for certain you are brothers. It's your Dad your mad at not your brother."

Now he knew what he had to do. Blair went to the bedroom and started to pack a bag. Teddy followed him and watched him pack clothes into a bag, now she started to panic, "What you doing? Are you leaving me?"

Blair carried on packing ignoring the question and Teddy tried to read his thoughts but it was blank suddenly there was nothing. Grabbing his arm as he was leaving, "Blair, please tell me why are you leaving?"
When William had told him Estevan was in trouble, Blair knew all too well what it meant someone was out to destroy Estevan and the family. The trouble was Blair did care about his brother and Teddy was right he'd been mad at the wrong person when all along it was their father who was in the wrong and now he wanted answers. The fact that Estevan was always there for him, it was now his turn to help Estevan out. This unfortunately meant leaving Teddy and Harmony alone without him for awhile. It broke his heart to cut his intimate connection with Teddy but the less she knew the better. The person behind the set up Blair knew had to be dangerous and he didn't want his family hurt.

Leaving Teddy was a painful decision and hoped it wouldn't be for long and he knew when he did come back the storm waiting for him would be more than he deserved. He shook her arm away and heard her pleas to come back but he needed to do this.

He locked the garage door behind him and uncovered his old motorbike and said, "Hay there old friend, we have a job to do."

Estevan had only walked into the living room when Dawn wrapped herself around him and in between kissing him she said, "Are you ok?"

Estevan looked at her lovingly and replied, "I am now." Then they heard a noise and Estevan added, "Dawn this is Lexy Sail. She brought me home from the station and she arrested me." He could sense Dawn wanted to argue but Estevan continued, "I saved her life once and that is why she is trying to clear my name because she believes me. I'm going to get changed so be nice, please." Then he give Dawn a kiss and left them together in the room.

"He saves your life and you arrest him."
"I know how it looks to you but you have no idea how much I hated doing my job."
"Are you in love with him?"
"What! No I'm a cop and a good one, it's just after he saved my life I feel I owe him. I broke several rules and told him the information we had and because of my help, Estevan has cooperated fully."

Just then the door burst open. It was Teddy she looked awful, "Is Estevan back yet?"
Dawn took Harmony off her and told her to sit down, "He's getting changed. What's wrong?"
Teddy was now curled up on the sofa faintly replied, "He's left me."

Estevan had just come in and yelled, "What!" He sat by Teddy as she looked at him, "He's left with no explanation as to why. One minute he is talking about your Dad then he packs a bag and leaves."
"What did he say exactly?"

"William had told him about you being arrested then I asked about why he was mad at you then he explained, he had run away from home and your Dad came to find him and begged him to come home. Blair refused but your Dad was renting a house on business and asked him to go there so he did. A while later a woman walks in with a baby but your Dad introduces them as Daphne and her baby Estevan. I guess when you told him that is why he went metal."
Estevan was now angry, "So my Dad lied straight to his face when he had the chance to tell him the truth. You and Harmony stay here because I think I know where he has gone. I will get him to come home, ok!"
Lexy suddenly said, "You can't leave the house it is part of your bail conditions."

Estevan got close to her as she backed herself against the wall, "Lexy my brother needs me. He is up to something and I have to help so either arrest me again or let me go and find him."
"Just be back before dawn." Then Estevan took off to find Blair.

4.16 Breaking the Rules

Closing the behind her was a welcome sight as she was exhausted after her night adventure. She knew it was wrong but all she could think about was Blake as she got ready for bed.

As she was about to go to sleep her computer went beep.

She sat in front of computer and read the email and it read,
Sail,
Meeting 10am sharp tomorrow and don't be late.
Keith

She knew if her boss used her surname then the meeting must be important. She made her way back to bed but all she could do was think about Blake.

Police Station

"Sail why are you late?" my boss questioned me as I sat down in the chair.
"Come on its only 10 minutes. Take a chill pill." The way he looked at me was bad. I guess telling him to chill was a bad move. "So Boss what's important?"
"The murder of Samantha Wood, there has been a breakthrough and it's thanks to you." I looked stunned at him as he continued, "When we found the body, I was convinced it was was a messy kill. As you know the prime suspect has been Blake Granger her boyfriend. You however being a stubborn vampire pissed off the coroner and demanded they take another look at the body. The report just came back; there was a small but distinctive puncher wound. It was over looked because they thought a vampire in anger; he would feed all over the place."

"That is bull shit and you know it. Vampires even in anger will not move all over the place. We sink our fangs in then drain. It's that simple." He just stared at me giving me the look to shut up and listen. I'd been investigating the case for months getting ready to arrest this guy but after meeting him and reading his mind he was many things but not a killer. After looking into his eyes I was falling for Blake. "Sail did you hear me?"

"Sorry boss I didn't."
"Arrest Estevan Granger." I stood there now shock, "I won't arrest his father."
"Why not?"

"He wouldn't do it. He protected his son by getting Samantha out of the house but finish the job and put his son through torment, get real..."

"Until you have more information on the case then arrest him. He did move the body."
"Boss we both know he didn't set up his son."
"You will arrest him for finishing her off and moving a body or you can kiss your career goodbye. So because of your help I will give you 30 minutes to make your choice."

I took a stroll through the local park thinking about what I should do. I knew the arrest was wrong my gut told me this but I loved my job. I watched everyone have a great time in the park. I wanted to cry because here I was about to arrest a man who saved my life. I remember visiting family and the house caught fire and it was Estevan who pulled me out and sat with me while the paramedics did their job. Until last night I didn't know Blake was his son and I was about to hurt them both.

"Lexy isn't it?" There he stood looking at me.
"Yes its me." wow I sound like a little child.
"You look great. All grown up I see. What do you do now?" My heart sunk when he asked that.
"Estevan we need to talk as I'm about to break a major rule but I feel I owe you." He tried to speak but we didn't have much time as I stopped him and continued. "I work for the police and have been investigating Samantha Wood's murder."

Estevan looked at me pissed and firmly stated, "Murder, my son didn't commit any murder. It was an accident."
I begged for him to listen, "I know he didn't do it but now they want me to arrest you."
"What! Lexy this is ridiculous I would never set up my son."

"How long was her body left between Blake freaking out and you cleaning up?"
"I never cleaned up..." I looked at him, "You know what I did after being a fire fighter don't you. Yes I cleaned up after the killing but I thought as did Blake that he had...you know killed Sam. It was about 20 minutes before I got there to clean up."
"There was another puncher wound almost same distance as the fang marks but not quite and they believe you finished her off."
"If I feed it is clean and I don't share. So I would never finish someone else's feed. Blake needs to know about this as the guilt is tearing him apart. Sam was having an affair and Blake had confronted her about it."
"I will look into this and thanks for the information but you know I have to arrest you."

"I know but one thing before you do. I don't hold it against you for doing your job and I approve." I looked puzzled at him and then he added, "You and Blake, you would be good for him. All the time we have been talking I read your mind to find out why you would comprise your job for me." Now I really wanted to cry but then I said, "Estevan Granger I am arresting you for the murder of Samantha Wood."
