4.19 A common goal

Estevan met Dawn at the casino after persuading Lexy that he had to sort out things for the opening night. “Everything ready for the casino to open in a few weeks?” he asked.

Dawn had seen Estevan happily chat with Lexy as he got from the car and snapped, “Why don’t you ask your new girlfriend, Miss Sail.” 

Estevan was appalled at her outburst and yelled back, “My what…how can you think that I would…Who did I ask to marry me? My fiancée would never believe me to cheat on her after being through so much.”

“Then why do you have a tight bond with her? Maybe you should marry her instead of me.” Dawn’s jealousy was getting to her and she hated feeling like this but it was eating her up so she let it all out.

“This is crazy Dawn. You are the one I want to be with.” He held her as she struggled to get free but he wouldn’t free her until she listened to him. “Calm down and listen to me. Firstly I Love you and we are getting married. Secondly Lexy is in love with Blake and lastly she sees me as her hero.”

Dawn was in shock, “You’re what?” She stopped fighting with him and listened intently, “As her hero I said. When I lived in Barnacle Bay I was a fire fighter. I was called to an emergency and a little girl was trapped in that fire. She was only a toddler at the time and I saved her life. I waited with her till the paramedics checked her over and took her to hospital. The little girl was Lexy. I still see that little girl.”

Dawn turned away from Estevan with guilty at what she had thought was going on. He put his arms around her and continued, “I love you Dawn. I’m not having an affair and I hope we still have a wedding to plan.”

She turned around throwing her arms around him, “I’m sorry and yes we do have a wedding to plan. Are you sure about Lexy liking Blake?”

“They both like each other but Blake is lying to himself at the moment but she told him how she felt.

When Dawn got home she couldn’t take it anymore seeing Teddy so ill. She made an appointment with the doctor and made her go to the surgery. Teddy refused to go in alone so Dawn went with her. They explained everything to him. He took blood and rushed the tests through. They sat in the office waiting for him to come back. Dr Lane came back and said, “Teddy the tests show nothing to indicate why you are like this but from what I have read about vampires breaking a connection is not good. If you reconnect with your husband then you will be fine.”

“Fine…Fine…Fine…you think I want to be like this. If I knew where he was then I could reconnect but as I don’t that would be difficult.”

“I appreciate that…” Teddy was livid by now.

“Oh you appreciate do you, great then understand this I’m getting weaker by the day and losing my temper with you isn’t helping. My brother in-law is forcing me to eat to stay alive but I’m still losing weight. My daughter is scared because she thinks I’m dying. Please give me something to help.”

Dawn pulled her back to her seat. Dr Lane approached her carefully and crouched down beside her and said, “There is one more test we can run, a pregnancy test. However if …”

Teddy interrupted him, “If it’s positive I’m keeping the baby so don’t try and say anything other than congratulations.” After a short wait the result came back positive. Dawn was pleased for Teddy but at the same time crushed as she wished it was her that was pregnant.

“How many weeks am I?”

“About 6 to 8 weeks but as the baby will be a vampire it already senses something is wrong so is fighting for survival, draining all your reserves. You never notice before because you were still strong with your connection to Blair.”

Police Station

Keith and Estevan just stared at each other as Estevan sat down. “Lexy tells me you have more information for us?”

“Why are you interviewing me in here and do I need my solicitor present?”

“I admit I may have been a bit rash arresting you…”

Estevan was getting angry, “A bit rash…My family has been torn apart because of your rash decision so why the hell should I cooperate further?” He got closer as fear came over Keith face, “Look Estevan, we had to be seen as doing something to solve her murder and rumour was you hated her.”

Estevan sat back down, “I did hate her towards the end because I knew when Blake found out her betrayal he would be devastated.” He looked at Lexy, “Can you give Keith and me a minute?” Once they were alone he turned back to Keith and said, “You always had a bad record as a cop but who helped you out and got you to your comfortable chair? Is this why you arrested me because I’m not in the business anymore?”

“Look Estevan, bottom line is we now have a common goal. I need to catch a killer and word is your right hand man, Blair is on the lose ready to make a kill. Here is the deal give us a name and even if the guy has a bruise or two as long as we find him alive we won’t charge Blair with anything. Did you recognize him and what is his name?”

 Estevan thought about the question. He could let Blair handle this but with Teddy getting worse he needed Blair to come home. “I think he may be an ex associate of mine but I’m not 100% sure yet. His name slips my mind at the moment.”

“Name or when we find Blair he will be under arrest.”

“I’m not sure of the surname but his first name is Adam.”
